Studio Workflow
We aim to operate as paperless as possible and any stationery used will be from recycled products or FSC certified forests.
To minimise material waste we do not stock products and use dropshipping providers for all orders.
Waste
We always aim to reuse and recycle materials we have access to in the studio. All stationery and packaging from deliveries is reused where possible. Where materials cannot be reused and where the option exists they will be recycled.
Energy
We are committed to obtaining energy supplies for a green provider. Energy is supplied to the business by Bulb, who are currently ranked the best green energy supplier in the UK. This renewable energy company has strong green credentials, providing 100% green electricity and 10% green gas (the rest is offset through carbon reduction projects, making it 100% carbon neutral).
Suppliers
Without sacrificing quality, we are committed to working with suppliers who in turn are committed to reducing their impact on the environment. We are very proud to work with dStudio, a carbon neutral company, to produce and distribute our Luxe Eco Prints and Prodigi, to produce and distribute our sustainable greeting cards. Order Fulfilment of Prints
We are proud to work with dStudio, a multi-award winning, carbon neutral, fine art print studio to produce and deliver prints which have minimal impact on the earth.
Materials Used
All images are printed on Hahnemühle Agave 290gsm paper. 70% of this unique, eco friendly paper is made from resource saving agave sisal fibres, cotton makes up the remaining 30%. Its delicately defined texture gives the subject a captivating sense of depth and impresses with a pleasant, soft feel. The premium matt coating guarantees outstanding reproduction of colour, sharp detail, deep blacks and optimum contrast. Agave is acid free, lignin free and free from OBAs. Agave is ideally suited for all traditional fine art mediums as well as digital artwork requiring paper texture.
Why is Agave Eco Friendly?
Agave is a plant that grows in some of the driest areas of the world, the plant needs approximately 4 years to grow before it is ready to harvest and from there, the leaves can be harvested several times a year for up to 15 years. Agave is a resource saving plant and needs very little water and no fertilizers or pesticides at all. During the growing phase, other plants and crops like corn or beans are cultivated between the agaves, which counteracts monocultures and improves the soil quality due to humification of harvest residues.
Away from paper, agave fibres are traditionally used in the production of ropes, yarns, carpets as well as geotextiles and mattresses. New applications are being researched, both the building and the car industry are working on using this sustainable material. For example, it can be used for insulating materials and fibreboards. Agave can be used as a fibre composite material, as it is lighter than glass fibre.
Packaging
Prints that are A4 or smaller are packaged flat. Each print is sandwiched between two sheets of acid free tissue paper and the prints themselves are sandwiched between two pieces of board. The two boards are taped together at each of the four sides to keep the prints from moving. This is then placed inside a mail bag.
All the materials in A4 packaging are recyclable. Paper tape is used for fixing the boards that protect the prints, the mail bags are made from sugar cane, not plastic, and are themselves recyclable.
Larger prints are sent rolled in postal tubes. Each print is wrapped in acid free tissue paper, the prints are rolled around a smaller tube to protect the prints from getting creased while rolling. The prints are then wrapped in a heavy weight paper, longer than the prints to protect the edges while inside the postal tube, this roll is taped to stop the prints from unwinding and filling out the tube, which makes it easier to remove from the tube.
Delivery
Posting orders to our customers – and to your customers via our Dropshipping service – creates our largest scope of carbon emissions. In the UK, domestic deliveries are typically sent by Royal Mail and DPD. DPD is one of the greenest delivery companies in the UK, they’ve been carbon neutral since 2012 and offset their own carbon emissions while developing their own carbon reducing initiatives, including a fleet of electric delivery vehicles.
Order Fulfilment of Greeting Cards
We are proud to work with Prodigi to produce our fine art greeting cards. This company is committed to being a sustainable, ethical business, working hard to mitigate its impact on the environment, whilst actively benefiting the communities in which they operate.
Materials
Every custom greeting card is individually printed 324gsm Mohawk card. Each card is supplied with a complimentary brown craft paper envelope, which is included with the card within a protective cellophane sleeve.
Wood and pulp is sourced from sustainably managed forests. Sustainably managed forests meet the needs of wildlife while supporting livelihoods and providing many other ecosystem services, such as carbon storage and flood risk mitigation.
The use of solvent inks throughout the supply chain has been minimised and either neo pigment or eco solvent inks are used instead.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous, toxin-free and vegan friendly. They meet the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications for infant wear, Global Organic Textiles (GTOTS-3V), Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colourists.
Eco solvent inks derive from ether extracts taken from refined mineral oil. While they still contain harmful solvents, they have a lower VOC content than standard solvent inks and are significantly less hazardous.
Packaging
Packaging may vary across print labs in countries but will be robust for the job and as a rule the use of plastic will be minimised where practicable.
